Community Art

This series started with Patricia Ong’s multi-media production for high schools. Liz Monsivais directed the play and I was the visual director. The virgin-in-a-sense production was so popular kids would even cut class to see it. The talented students’ art was on display around Sacramento and UC Davis . Our first outdoor mural directing 6th graders was at Rio Linda Elementary school. It was a challenge technically, but with wonderful mentors Esteban Villa and Jose Montoya and enthusiastic teachers and students, the painting flourished. Further, big murals with residents at house communities and large paintings with patients at medical clinics are part of this rich scope of art. I am very thankful for the grants and for participating in the extraordinary vitality of community art!
